Welcome to this weeks rundown of The Player’s Championship. Some quick housekeeping, make sure you take the new Substack emails out of your spam and into your inbox; I’ve noticed that some emails may come to both depending on how Gmail, Yahoo, or whatever you use is feeling that morning. Additionally, keep forwarding this on to your friends, keep liking and sharing the posts (all good for the algo), and feel free to send me more lineups to use for my new Monday Recap.
Let’s get into this week:
I - Weather: The weather this week will be a PROBLEM. Wind, rain, cold Florida weather. Now, I’ve never been one to adjust lineups based on tee times (I think the difference is ultimately marginal for how much work it would be), but this week may be the week to look a little closer at who goes off and what the weather is like
II - Money: Big money, big money… this is the biggest purse is PGA history. I have no doubt that people will be slightly motivated to win, because a whopping $3.6M for coming in that top spot. Not bad.
III - So begins the Major Swing: While not technically a major, this tournament is known as golf’s fifth major. The best of the best in Jacksonville Florida to mark the start of a 5 month swing of major golf. The Masters is just around the corner, then the PGA Championship, US Open, and The Open, all in consecutive months. The meat of the season is officially underway.
IV - What to expect: The unexpected. Like I said above, the weather will play a big factor, but the biggest factor is the golf course itself. The previous two weeks have set a good precedent of what it will take to win in tough conditions. The cream will once again rise to the top, you simple cannot fake it at TPC Sawgrass. Hit your spot off the tee, hit the greens, make the putts. Simple Stuff.
